Rugantino to conquer America.

Rugantino was the first Italian musical to be successful on Broadway.

This was not an easy goal. As Garienei says, exporting the musical to America was "similar to trying to sell watches in Switzerland".

After its extraordinary debut at the Teatro Sistina in 1962, the musical was such a success that prolific American theatrical impresario Alexander Cohen, decided to take the show overseas.

After a few shows in Toronto, the musical comedy landed three sold out weeks at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on Broadway in February 1964, with an incredible cast, featuring Nino Manfredi as Rugantino, Ornella Vanoni as Rosetta, Aldo Fabrizi as Mastro Titta and Bice Valori as Eusebia.
In 2010, Enrico Brignano reprised the title role of the Roman antihero, Rugantino, at the Teatro Sistina, which has been performed by a number of famous Italian performers, such as Nino Manfredi and Enrico Montesano.

Season 2010/2011

After the incredible success of the
2010/2011 season at the Teatro Sistina Roma,
Rugantino returns with the face,
voice and verve of Enrico Brignano.

Generally sensitive towards culture and
all art forms, fond of traditions but
not conservative, refined and big spenders.
